After consulting our local veterinarians, friends, and trying several ourselves over the years, we are happy to share our best iguana cage models with you. We hope this helps you narrow down your decisions and makes purchasing your iguana cage simple.
So in this article, I’m going to share what has proven to be the best iguana cage overall. This is based on three categories that we find very important for our little green friend, the Iguana:
- Heat & Humidity
- Habitat Design
- Safety
List of the Best Iguana Cages
Exo Terra Allglass Terrarium (Large/Tall, 18x36x24)
The Exo Terra Allglass Terrarium has become our top pick over several other iguana enclosures that we have tried and tested.
Here’s why we chose this model as our best iguana cage.
Heat and Humidity
The top is a screen that lets a lot of light in when using a top fixture. This creates excellent ventilation to keep temperatures from building up inside. It also allows for an equal balance of inside / outside humidity regulation. We do still mist on occasion.
Just under the two bay doors is a vent that runs the full length of the front. This helps with additional airflow.
Habitat
The doublewide doors are the first thing we noticed. This makes for super easy access to clean it out. A sturdy front door latching system also makes for less worry.
There is plenty of room to move around and explore inside the iguana cage.
It has small notches in the top that can be opened for cords or tubing. The bottom is about six inches deep and watertight. Just be careful not to jar the seals when unpacking it.
The climbing wall made from styrofoam adds to the natural habitat functionality and looks terrific.
Safety
Being able to open one door at a time means not worrying about an attempted escape. Just open one door at a time for feeding, misting, and rearranging items. Other models have sliding doors where sand can get trapped. Not this one!
Safety latches hold the top in place. Very well built and of great quality.
The heat mat has never cracked the glass even when we had it up to 120 degrees F.

Carolina Custom Cages Terrarium
The Carolina Custom Cages Terrarium was our second favorite iguana cage. This is mainly because of the sliding doors. Our sand kept getting in the rails and it made the door difficult to slide. This is still better than no front door and being forced to enter from the top, like some models. If that issue was resolved, this could be the best iguana cage.
I remember putting this one together and it took less than a half-hour. Just be sure to read the instructions and keep the glass panels in the order received. They are shipped in the order you place them in the iguana enclosure during assembly.
Heat and Humidity
The snap-in-place top enclosure ensures most humidity issues won’t occur. It also helps regulate the temperature inside the tank.
Habitat
We had an open-top 40 gallon originally and this was troublesome. This cage comes with a top cover so If your critter likes to glass surf it helps keep them home.
The door handles utilize suction cups that can occasionally fall off. Just a minor annoyance and usually doesn’t happen if you use a gentle touch.
Safety
The sliding doors are lockable which is definitely a must-have feature. You can also be secure in knowing that this iguana enclosure isn’t sliding anywhere. In fact, we recommend you build it on the final resting place where you intend to keep it. It is heavy at 65 pounds!
Be prepared to do some vacuuming after assembly. There is a ton of styrofoam that could easily present as a problem if you leave any little pieces inside the enclosure. We vacuumed multiple times and used condensed air when necessary.

Exo Terra AllGlass Terrarium (Small/Tall,18x18x24)
This Exo Terra Allglass Terrarium (Small-Tall version) has become our #3 pick over many others when your little buddy is a smaller size.
We started out with this one and upgraded as the time required. Here’s why we chose this model as our #3 best iguana cage.
Heat and Humidity
The patented front window ventilation really helps with air circulation. This is the same vent that runs the full length of the two-bay doors mentioned in our #1 best iguana cage.
You will still need to monitor the temperature and humidity. We mentioned adding additional mist on occasion.
This unit has a raised bottom frame so you can add a substrate heater.
Iguana Cage Habitat
The same doublewide doors are on this model by Exo Terra and again, make for easy access to clean it out. The doors are marketed as “escape-proof” thanks to the locking mechanism which we found to be reliable.
It also has nice, closable inlets as the bigger model for running tubes and wires in a neat and manageable way.
The background is painted styrofoam and looks like an actual outside habitat. It is great for your little climber to scale.
Safety
There is an adequate ground surface area to give plenty of room to explore and move about when your little guy has the energy.
The waterproof base allows for the creation of a water feature without the worry of leakage.

Zoo Med Naturalistic Terrarium
The Zoo Med Naturalistic Terrarium comes in three different sizes: Small, Medium, and Large.
The smaller size is only good for beetles or small geckos. You’ll want the Medium or Large for an iguana.
Heat and Humidity
This model comes with top and front ventilation to help with air circulation inside the terrarium. But you might consider buying a small piece of plexiglass to cover the top if you start to have a humidity issue.
Habitat
The special top screen is fine enough to keep your feeder insects inside the cage while still allowing UVA and UVB to enter.
Very attractive cage design. Make sure you use enough glue when assembling the back wall. If you use too little it will start to come apart after a few weeks.
Safety
There is a lockable front door but this enclosure does not include the lock. You will have to buy the lock separately.
Also, be on the gentle side when opening and closing the door. The hinges are plastic and susceptible to breaking if you use too much force.
This cage also only comes designed with one front door. When you open to clean or rearrange stuff, the whole front of the cage is open. Be careful!

Repti Zoo 67 Gallon Terrarium
The Repti Zoo 67 Gallon Terrarium is the mother of all terrariums. The size is 48 x 18 x 18 and weighs in around 70 pounds thanks to the high quality thick and hard tempered glass. Just be careful when inserting the side glass panels. If the top frame is not securely in place, the side panels may slide out and break.
The unfortunate thing about this large iguana cage is the lack of handles for the enormous sliding glass front doors.
Heat and Humidity
The Repti Zoo has a history of allowing too much airflow to sustain proper temperatures and humidity for some species. This might be due to the extra ventilation on the left and right sides. There is already ventilation on the top.
The right side and top ventilation have closable inlets for cable management. Be sure to monitor the temperature and humidity and experiment with closing these inlets.
Habitat
A nice 4” deep base helps keep the substrate below the sliding door track. You just have to be careful if you use sand as it could get in the door track and make it difficult to open. Especially without handles.
The waterproof bottom also gives peace of mind when considering a water feature.
Safety of Iguana Cage
The Repti Zoo provides a custom-designed lock for the sliding front glass. It is a great deterrent against visiting children or other pets who might be tempted to fiddle with the lock. This extra security measure is a nice addition to the unit.
As you can imagine, an iguana cage of this size often arrives with broken parts when shipping to your home. Be prepared to send it back for a replacement if this happens.

RepiTerra Premium Terrarium
The RepiTerra Premium Terrarium has an affordable price thanks to construction using OSB boards. At about half the price of some of the other iguana cages on this list, it still weighs in at nearly 47 pounds.
The weight, of course, isn’t our concern. We’ve been around enough OSB board to know it has a short life if it ever gets wet. It can also be a bit splintery so be careful when handling. This can be a nice yet affordable iguana cage with a little modification (read on.)
Heat and Humidity
Since the top is a solid OSB board, you have to place a heat lamp inside the cage. This can lead to higher temperatures inside the cage so be diligent in monitoring your little friend.
There are two ventilation “grilles” on each side. One side has them towards the upper end of the wall (nice.) The other side has them towards the lower end near the floor (worrisome.) The bottom grilles present a perfect location for feeder crickets to get out.
Habitat
While there is plenty of room inside (total dimensions are roughly 40 x 20 x 20), every surface is a flat board. No styrofoam to climb up. No raised bottom frame for substrate or heaters. This is an OSB board cage only.
Since the top board is screwed into place, you have to remove the sliding glass panes to clean the cage. There are no hinges on the top board, although if you are handy, you might be able to add them for easier access.
Safety
Although it is stated to be formaldehyde-free OSB, there are still reports of toxicity to certain species, like bearded dragons.
There are also reports of splinters coming from the boards so use caution if your budget sends you to this cage. Also, be aware of the ⅓ inch gap in the glass doors. Add weatherstrips to close that gap if you have concerns.

Zen Habitats Iguana Cage
Zen Habitats Terrarium completes our list of Top 7 Best Iguana Cages.
This is the only iguana enclosure that uses PVC panels for the sides, top, and bottom. We were actually fairly impressed with this model even though it still costs as much as a full glass version.
The PVC seems to hold the heat and humidity levels fairly steady. The humidity shield used as a top screen does a nice job holding humidity levels while allowing proper ventilation.
Heat and Humidity
As mentioned, PVC does a good job regulating temperature and keeping humidity levels constant. There’s also a hole in the back wall for the addition of a fogger hose if desired.
However, if you don’t intend to use this back wall accessory hole, you need to cover it with something like duct tape as it could present an escape risk.
There is also an option for under tank heating if you need it.
Habitat
This iguana cage tends to be on the lighter side thanks to the PVC construction. There is also a website that shows detailed assembly instructions if needed.
The only tool needed to put it together is a mallet (unless you add the recommended screws at each corner, then you’ll need a screwdriver too.)
Unlike most other iguana cages, these are stackable. There is a one-inch stacking spacer available at an extra cost.
Safety
This cage does not come with a lock for the front sliding doors. You will have to purchase that separately… along with the extra screws and duct tape.
The biggest concern came when it was reported that the walls can fall apart. Adding three screws at each corner is recommended by owners. The chance of losing a pet puts the question mark on Safety and brings this unit to the last place on our list.
This is a good option if you don’t like cleaning glass panels since the only two panels are the two front sliders and they are made of acrylic. With a few modifications for safety, you can have an affordable iguana cage.

How we picked
We started out by asking friends who had iguanas. We found that many had varied opinions and experiences with the multitude of iguana cages that they used. We knew a cage needs to be secure, hold temperature and humidity well, and have proper features to keep the little guy active. That’s when we decided to ask our local veterinarians.
This started us on the path of choosing our first iguana enclosure. We weren’t completely satisfied and returned it for a different model. As time went by and our pet grew, we experimented with different cages. This is how we got to know many of the cages on our list.
Conclusion: 7 Best Iguana Cages of 2020
The best iguana cage is the one that keeps your pet secure, the proper temperature, and has room to play. We’ve given you several options in this list to get you started on picking one out for your little friend.
There are several top picks that are glass models. One that uses wood only and another that uses PVC. If you have any further questions about iguana cages, please leave them in the comment section. We’ll be glad to answer them.
