What Birds Cannot Fly?

emu

There are some birds that cannot fly such as emu, cassowaries, rheas, kiwi including the well-known ostrich and its relatives.

However, with the exception of the kiwi, a peculiar New Zealand bird, even the flightless birds have fairly well-developed wings. The wing of the kiwi has been modified into mere stubs so that it appears to be entirely wingless.

The name emu is probably more familiar to cross-word punk fans than the name of any other flightless bird with the exception of the ostrich.

Emus are natives of Australia, but they have become rare in some areas. The male is smaller than the female, and after the eggs are laid, he incubates them and takes care of the resulting brood of chicks.
